What’s new with the application process? Our tips and tricks
The fantastic new Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ was recently released. Naturally, QDOS is on hand to offer the ultimate screen protection solution for Samsung’s ultimate device to date.
Curved Glass technology has evolved rapidly over the last few years, so most of the screen protectors now come with full glue coverage. As a result, there are slightly different application steps to accommodate for this new technology.
If you are considering a Galaxy S9/S9+ or already have the device and are looking for protection, this could be the first time that you have had to apply a screen protector to an infinity screen. It’s not the same as applying flat glass protectors, full glue requires different application techniques and therefore does take a little more time, but don’t panic!
We’ve put together our essentials for applying curved glass protectors with full glue as well as a video tutorial for the Galaxy S9/S9+.
1. Switch on touch sensitivity mode
Samsung have developed an excellent feature to complement your screen protector to ensure perfect transition, the touch sensitivity mode. It is best to turn this feature on before applying your screen protector. On the Galaxy S9/S9+, this can be found in Settings > Advanced Features > scroll to the bottom and enable ‘Touch Sensitivity’.
2. Apply on a flat, steady surface, with good lighting
It is essential to apply a screen protector in a well-lit, flat surfaced environment to ensure the device doesn’t move during the application process, as well as being able to see dust on the device more easily.
3. Clean screen thoroughly with the wipe, microfiber cloth and dust sticker
As with flat glass protectors, any dirt residue or dust left on the screen when the OptiGuard is applied is likely to stay there until the protector is removed, so it’s best to get that screen clean! Dust is especially difficult because it’s often hard to see and, if left on the screen, can cause an air bubble once the protector is fitted.
4. Ensure applicator is on your device securely
Press down the tool firmly in all four corners to secure into place. Make sure it’s the right way up; the flat side should touch the floor/table surface, this way you can make sure the applicator tool is also secured. One side will be marked ‘top’ for the top of your device (where the front facing camera is).
5. Double check for dust before preparing glass
When you’re ready to peel back the film, give the screen one last check to ensure no dust has found its way onto the screen.
6. Place Glass Screen Protector onto device
Once protective film is peeled back, apply quickly and carefully onto device screen, using the applicator tool as your template to fix into place. You don’t want to leave it too long in between peeling off the film and applying to the screen, just in case dust particles are attracted to the glass screen protector.
7. Apply pressure
Apply gentle pressure down the middle of the OptiGuard from top to bottom, allowing time for the glue to disperse over the device screen.
8. Gently remove applicator tool
Use your index finger to secure glass on the screen; use thumb and third finger (both hands if necessary) to remove the applicator tool. NOTE: the applicator tool for the Galaxy S9/S9+ OptiGuard is re-usable, so it’s best to keep it in case of a need for a replacement.
9. Ensure glue is dispersed across device screen
Using the applicator tool card provided, apply pressure on the screen protector from top to bottom, ensuring the glue is dispersed across the screen. Ensure you’re using the right side of the applicator card on your device (the darker side with fabric should be touching the screen). Do this at least 2-3 times to ensure full screen coverage.
10. Remove any remaining air bubbles
For large bubbles:
- Gently lift closest corner of the glass until the air bubble is lifted, then place back down. Once again, use the applicator card on this section to ensure the glue is perfectly applied to the screen.
For small bubbles:
- Use the microfiber cloth to push the air out to the sides of glass. If the smaller bubbles are struggling to be removed, use your nail to push them out with gentle pressure.
11. Don’t worry!
Any small bubbles should disappear on their own. If they don’t disappear instantly, allow up to 48 hours. Once again, just be patient, this process should not be compared to applying flat glass screen protectors.
